Ajman: Ajman Police seized 5,052 vehicles for flouting traffic regulations, creating road hazards and endangering lives of road users during 2015.

The number of cars seized due to violations has increased by nine per cent in 2015 as 4,363 vehicles were confiscated in 2014.

Colonel Ali Humaid Al Masseibi, Director of the Traffic and Patrolling Department of Ajman Police, said that the action was taken as part of the Ajman Police plan to enforce the law and ensure traffic safety in the emirate.

Colonel Al Masseibi said the violations included jumping red lights, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and also failure to renew car registrations.

Out of the total confiscated vehicles, some 714 vehicles were caught jumping red lights, 507 were involved in traffic accidents, 373 were confiscated for driving with expired insurance, 272 for driving without licence, 266 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 206 for dark-tinted glass windows, 164 for making engine modification, 155 for speeding, 76 for reckless driving, 70 for posing risk to public safety and 78 for involvement in criminal cases.

Col Al Masseibi said that Ajman Police has implemented various traffic safety programmes that contributed a great deal in controlling the traffic on roads and reducing traffic jams.

This was implemented in addition to the programme organised to educate the motorists about traffic violation and its penalties to help them avoid fines and confiscation of their cars for a month and two months for heavy vehicles.

He urged the motorists to follow the rules and avoid violations to ensure self-safety and protection of others.
