Abu Dhabi: A British man of Indian origin has been arrested after verbally abusing Abu Dhabi International Airport security and airline personnel in addition to making statements offensive to the UAE after he was unable to catch his flight. Originally coming from Heathrow Airport and heading to India, the man arrived in the capital one week ago, Criminal Investigation Department officials said.

The suspect’s first aeroplane had faced some delays which resulted in his inability to board his next flight to India. This caused him to become agitated and to reportedly swear at an airline employee. According to authorities, the man also refused to allow other passengers to finish their procedures, insisting that he get on the aeroplane after it had already closed its doors.

Witnesses offered identical testimonies, saying security officials suggested that the man have a seat and calm down. However, police say that the man insisted on using offensive language while making derogatory remarks directed at the UAE.

The man later said that he was directing the offensive statement at himself, not at the airport employees and the UAE.
