Abu Dhabi: A major two-day anti-cyberterrorism conference will be hosted in the capital starting on Monday, bringing local and international policymakers and experts to discuss the best strategies in countering the cyber threat posed by terrorists.

The conference comes at a very relevant time after a recent major global cyber attack that hit 99 countries around the world, highlighting the vulnerabilities and threats posed by cyber criminals. The two-day conference will include presentations, seminars, and workshops which will all focus on developing methods for criminalising cyber terrorism.

Speaking at a media briefing on Saturday, Dr Ali Al Nuaimi, director-general at Abu Dhabi Education Council and chairman of the conference, said such international conferences are important as the threat of cyberterrorism is a global security concern.

“The anti-cyberterrorism conference which is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will bring together high-ranking officials, decision makers, and experts from around the world.

“We want to put forward a strategy and vision for all countries, not just the UAE, formulating new regulations for handling and combating electronic crimes committed by terrorists,” he added.

“The security of all international countries is in danger if we do not combat this,” he added.

Al Nuaimi said that having a number of experts would also bring the added benefit of having a variety of opinions and points of views, making any decisions to come out of the conference more broad ranging and holistic.

Al Nuaimi also positively spoke on the UAE hosting such a major international conference, and that it highlighted how the country is firmly committed to playing a role in countering the threat of cyberterrorism.
