Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have seized more than 110kg of hashish hidden inside a sand dune in Al Ain.

Major General Maktoum Al Sharifi, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the operation was carried out with utmost secrecy, and that the two suspects were followed and monitored until they were eventually arrested with the drugs in their possession. The suspects were removing the drugs from the fuel tank of a car and burying them in the sand.

Al Sharifi said that the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) anti-narcotics section received a tip-off concerning a plan to promote and sell drugs in Al Ain. Investigation and observation of the suspects confirmed their plans to sell a large amount of drugs.

Al Sharifi said that their efforts ensured the success of the operation and foiling the plans to sell drugs to youths. He also praised their quick response in dealing with tip-off they received, their detailed planning and the way carried out the operation.

Al Sharifi called on members of the public to be involved in the police’s programmes that raise awareness on the dangers of drugs, as well as reporting to the police any information on drug-related activities.
