Ras Al Khaimah: A total of 19 suspected drug traffickers and addicts were arrested in Ras Al Khaimah recently, police said.

The suspects are of different nationalities and they were arrested in 18 separate operations in January.

Colonel Adnan Ali Al Za’abi, director-general of the Ras Al Khaimah Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department, said authorities started investigations after receiving information about illegal activities being carried out by the suspects who were promoting drugs among people in the emirate.

The drug traffickers and peddlers, and addicts were arrested in traps laid for them.

Police said the suspects were based in different areas of the emirate and did not know each other. “There is no link or relations between them,” he said.

The suspects allegedly smuggled narcotic substances into the country and hid them. Police officers raided the places and arrested the suspects red handed.

At the time of the arrest, police found different types of narcotic substances on them.

The suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.

Major-General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, lauded the cooperation between police departments in the country.
