Dubai: A construction worker sodomised his co-worker in his room when they were both drunk, a court heard on Wednesday.

The incident happened in a labour accommodation in Jebel Ali Industrial Area in November.

The 24-year-old Indian victim, who admitted to being heavily drunk, was walking back to his room when the 29-year-old Pakistani accused offered to walk him home.

He, however, took the Indian to his own room where he forced him to undress and have sex with him.

The Indian, who pretended he wanted to go to the washroom in an attempt to escape, got a further shock when he opened the door of the room to find three Pakistani men outside.

He managed to get away and rushed to the nearest police station where he lodged a complaint claiming that he had been sodomised.

Police arrested the accused immediately. Prosecutors charged him with drinking and having forced sex with the co-worker.

The Indian was charged with consuming liquor and will be tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court next week.

Appearing before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday, the accused rejected the charge of sodomy and argued that it was consensual sex.

However, he told presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi that he had consumed liquor.

The Indian testified to prosecutors that he had been drinking on a Friday evening and was heading back to his room when the accused accosted him in the street. “He grabbed me by my shoulder and offered to walk me to my residence because I was very drunk. He took me to the second floor of a labour accommodation where he locked us inside the room. I refused to take off my clothes when he asked me to do so. Then he forced me to undress and raped me … when I went towards the door and opened it, there were three Pakistani men outside. I told the suspect that I had to go to the washroom to clean up and then reported the matter to the police,” he said.

Presiding judge Al Shamsi said the court will appoint a lawyer for the defendant when it reconvenes on March 14.
