Dubai: Three people stood trial in the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday on the charges of possessing 56.3kg of amphetamine pills for trading.
The two Saudi brothers and an Iranian denied the drug possession and trafficking charges in court.
According to the case, the Anti-Narcotic Department of Dubai Police received information about the 38-year-old Iranian defendant selling amphetamine pills to a man in Rigga area. A 33-year-old Emirati police officer testified that they arrested the defendant while he was about to board a plane from Sharjah airport in May.
During police questioning, the man confessed to selling the drugs to the Saudi brothers near a hotel in Rigga area.
“We raided their hotel room in Rigga but no drugs were found. There were many car keys in the room. One of the brothers said the keys were of his cars, one of which was a Ford parked in the hotel car park while the others were in Saudi Arabia,” the officer said.
Police searched the car in the hotel car park and found some drugs in a suitcase in the back seat and more in several plastic bags.
“The Saudi said the Iranian, who was leaving the country for a while, kept it in his car until his return,” said the officer.
When police opened the bags, they found amphetamine tablets weighing 56.3kg.
