Dubai: A site supervisor has been jailed for six months for molesting an eight-year-old girl while she was playing hide-and-seek with her brother in the building where they live.
The 21-year-old Pakistani supervisor took the Indian girl aside in the play area, kissed and touched her indecently and then threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what he did to her in August.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the accused of molesting the girl and threatening to kill her although he had pleaded innocent.
The presiding judge said the accused will be deported after serving his jail term.
The girl said the incident happened after the defendant asked her and her brother to play hide and seek.
“He spotted us beside our building in the playing area. He asked us to play and when my brother went to hide, the accused took me to the stairs where he touched me indecently and kissed me. He also hugged me. When he bit my neck, I pushed him away. As I walked away, he told me that if I told anyone what he did, he would kill me,” she testified to prosecutors.
The girl’s father said his daughter informed him about what had happened when he went to check why she had been crying.
“I heard her crying and when I went to check on her, she told me that the suspect had threatened to kill her. She told me that the suspect behaved indecently with her and bit her neck,” the father testified.
Police apprehended the defendant shortly after the father reported what had happened.
The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 14 days.
