Dubai: A man denied in court on Tuesday the accusation of assaulting two sisters, calling them bad women and using profane language in a nightclub when he was drunk.

The 29-year-old Lebanese man hit his 34-year-old countrywoman on her arm and when he attempted to assault her a second time, the woman pushed him away before other clubbers intervened and stopped him.

The two Lebanese sisters overheard the Lebanese man cursing them and using blasphemous language during the brawl.

In a previous hearing, the Dubai Court of First Instance sent the case back to the Public Prosecution to modify the charge sheet.

On Tuesday, presiding judge Shaikha Hamad read out the modified charges against the Lebanese suspect.

“Not guilty,” pleaded the 29-year-old when he denied assaulting the two sisters, calling them prostitutes and using profane language in the club.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old sister approached the three-judge bench and handed the court a written waiver confirming that they [she and her sister] have dropped their case against the suspect.

When asked about his demands from the court, the suspect told presiding judge Hamad: “Mercy.”

Records said the Lebanese did not respond when the police contacted him following the incident.

A month later, the suspect was apprehended at the same nightclub and brought in for interrogation.

The 34-year-old sister testified to prosecutors that the 29-year-old assaulted and cursed her while she was involved in a heated argument with another clubber sitting beside them.

“He rushed from the back and hit me … he tried to beat me again when I pushed him away. However, other clubbers stopped him. My sister and I heard him abusing us and committing blasphemy as well. Then we reported the matter to the police,” she told the prosecutors.

A police corporal testified to prosecutors that the suspect claimed during questioning that he worked in the nightclub and when he spotted the sisters fighting with a female clubber, he intervened to stop the fight.

“He claimed that when the sisters cursed him, he abused them back and then asked the security to kick them out of the nightclub,” the corporal claimed to prosecutors.

A ruling will be heard on December 14.
