Dubai: An employee has been accused of forcing his maid into his bedroom and raping her.

The 32-year-old Emirati employee was said to have called his Ethiopian maid to his room, locked the door and then assaulted her in August.

The neighbours’ maid saw the 21-year-old Ethiopian running out crying from her sponsor’s house, according to records.

The neighbours’ maid called the police and told them what had allegedly happened between the Emirati and his maid.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of using physical violence while raping the maid.

The Emirati pleaded not guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday.

The prosecutors said the suspect abused the fact that the Ethiopian worked at his house, where he lives with his children, and raped the woman behind closed doors.

“I did not do any of that,” the 32-year-old argued before the presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.

The 21-year-old claimed to prosecutors that the suspect called her to come urgently to his room around 4pm.

“Once I walked into the room, he closed the door quickly and locked it. Then he pushed me towards the bed, pinned me down and groped me … then he had sex with me against my will. I could not resist him or push him off me. He let go of me once he finished … I ran out of the room and walked out of the house. The neighbours’ maid saw me and I told her what had happened. She notified the police,” the Ethiopian testified to prosecutors.

A police sergeant claimed to prosecutors that a police team was dispatched to the Emirati’s residence to find out what had happened.

“The neighbours’ maid told me that she saw the Ethiopian immediately after the alleged rape. We knocked on the suspect’s door and the 21-year-old maid came out. The neighbours’ maid said the Ethiopian had told her that her boss had raped her in the bedroom. The suspect did not come out of his residence. The duty officer asked us to take the Ethiopian to the police station to take down her statement,” the sergeant testified to prosecutors.

The court will appoint a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes on December 28.
