Dubai: A maid has been accused of stealing her employer’s two mobile phones from a safe while he was visiting his family in Ras Al Khaimah.

The Emirati sponsor was said to have checked on the mobile phones and ensured that his Bangladeshi maid’s passport was inside the safe before he went to visit his family’s house in Ras Al Khaimah in May.

During his visit to Ras Al Khaimah, the man’s wife called him around 2pm, according to records, and told him that their 29-year-old Bangladeshi maid had absconded. The man returned to his home in Dubai and discovered that his two mobiles and the maid’s passport were missing from the safe.

The Emirati reported the matter to the police.

The maid was later apprehended in Al Ghusais and referred to Dubai prosecutors who accused her of stealing two mobiles.

The 29-year-old suspect pleaded not guilty when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

“I did not take anything other than my passport,” the maid told presiding judge Urfan Omar.

The Emirati employer told prosecutors that the mobiles and the maid’s passport were inside the safe.

“Following my wife’s call, I returned home and discovered that the suspect had absconded after taking her passport and the phones from the safe,” he told prosecutors.

The suspect was cited as admitting to prosecutors that she stole the mobile phones and her passport.

A ruling in the case will be announced on September 28.
