A lawyer took off her slipper and beat a visitor, who had stopped her at a mall and wanted to be acquainted with her and have sex with her, a court heard on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Algerian visitor was said to have walked behind the 43-year-old Bahraini lawyer and asked her to stop repeatedly in January.
The lawyer and her friend continued walking for a distance, according to records, before the Algerian called the woman loudly and asked her to stop.
When she stopped, the 28-year-old man told the lawyer that he wanted to be acquainted with her and then sleep with her.
The 43-year-old then instantly removed her slipper and pounded it on the man’s head, who then started cursing and calling the woman bad names.
The Algerian visitor then touched the woman two times inappropriately and before he tried to leave the woman filmed him with her mobile phone to show his photos to the police later.
Police apprehended the man later and referred him to the Public Prosecution.
Prosecutors accused the suspect of molesting the lawyer and cursing her in public.
The suspect pleaded not guilty and refuted his accusations when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.
“I did not molest her … she is the one who cursed my mother and I slapped her and pushed her,” the suspect told presiding judge Mohammad Jamal.
The lawyer testified to prosecutors that she was walking with her friend at a mall when the incident happened.
“He called me ‘please ... please stop’. I neglected him and continued walking. Then he called me again and I stopped. Instantly he told me that he wanted to get to know me and have sex with me … I took off my slipper and hit him. Then he cursed me and cursed Arabs. I yelled at him to capture the shoppers’ attention … but not one intervened to help me. I put my slipper back on and walked away … he took me by surprise and touched me twice. Thereafter I filmed him with my mobile and then he ran away,” she claimed to prosecutors.
A ruling will be heard on July 18.
