Dubai: A manager has been accused of threatening to kill a jobseeker and her family if she marries someone else after she reached out to him on LinkedIn while looking for a job.

The 30-year-old Indian woman was said to have been looking for better job opportunities via LinkedIn when she connected with the 35-year-old Indian manager, whose profile mentioned that he is specialised in the investment and recruitment sector in January.

The woman communicated with manager for nearly six months, according to records, before he asked her to email him her CV.

The woman’s alleged ordeal started shortly after she emailed the man her CV that contained all her personal contact details.

The jobseeker was believed to have received emails and messages on her WhatsApp from the manager who threatened her in writing that he would kill her and her family members if she ever got married.

Records said the manager reportedly started stalking the woman via her mobile and email once she rejected his marriage proposal.

The woman was also believed to have received threats from an Indian mobile number.

Police apprehended the 30-year-old manager instantly following the woman’s complain.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of misusing the social media networks to threaten the woman that he would kill her mother first and then her if she married anyone. He was also accused of cursing the woman via WhatsApp and email.

The suspect strongly refuted his accusations and pleaded not guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

The suspect’s lawyer asked presiding judge Mohammad Jamal to adjourn the case until he presents his defence when the court reconvenes on November 14. Meanwhile the woman’s lawyer told the court that his client is suing the suspect for Dh21,000 in temporary compensation against her moral and emotional damages.

The jobseeker testified to prosecutors that the suspect started cursing and threatening her once she refused his marriage proposals.

“He abused the fact that I had emailed him my CV that contained all my contact details. He used to watch me and stalk me constantly. He texted me on WhatsApp and expressed that he liked me and wanted to marry me … but I refused his proposal. He phoned me from different numbers and even from an Indian number. He threatened me in writing by saying ‘in case you marry or get engaged to someone else, your mother will be the first victim … and you will be responsible for her death … then I will kill the remaining family members and you.’ He also cursed me, called me bad names, and said he would find out where I live and come to me. Then I instantly reported him to the police,” she claimed to prosecutors.

The trial continues.
