A housewife has been accused of pushing a policeman and ripping up his uniform when he accosted her for unruly behaviour and refusing to pay her liquor bill.

Dubai Police were alerted about a drunk woman who was wrecking chairs and tables at a nightclub in Bur Dubai in October 2017.

A police car was dispatched to the nightclub and when the policeman tried to calm down the intoxicated 45-year-old Moroccan housewife, she insulted him.

The policeman repeatedly tried to calm her down, pay her bill and leave peacefully.

When the woman pushed the policeman and tore his uniform, he called for backup. She also assaulted and insulted the hotel staff who tried to assist the policeman.

Prosecutors charged the Moroccan suspect of assaulting and insulting a policeman in public and referred her to the Dubai Court of First Instance.

The 45-year-old suspect failed to show up in courtroom three and enter her plea before presiding judge Mohammad Jamal.

Concurrently, the suspect is also being tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for assaulting and cursing three of the hotel staff and drinking liquor.

Presiding judge Jamal said the suspect would be sentenced in absentia on March 11.
