Dubai: A passenger has been accused of lewdness after getting drunk on the business class of a Dubai-bound flight, flashing and committing an indecent act in front of a married couple.

The 49-year-old Australian passenger was said to have been flying in from a Gulf country to Dubai when the Emirati couple spotted his zipper was open and he was indulging in indecency in August.

Records said the Emirati couple informed the crew.

Shortly after the plane landed and the passengers were allowed to disembark, according to records, the married couple reported the incident to a law enforcement officer at Dubai International Airport.

The man was taken into custody and referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigations.

The prosecutors accused the 49-year-old passenger of drinking liquor and committing an indecent act on the plane.

The Australian failed to show up before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Thursday.

The presiding judge adjourned the case and will sentence the suspect in absentia.

Sources close to the case told Gulf News that the suspect had been drinking alcohol at the business lounge of the other Gulf country’s airport.

The suspect claimed to police interrogators that he admitted that he had been drinking at the other country’s airport but did not remember what happened thereafter.

The Emirati man complained to the crew that the Australian had been staring at his wife from his aisle seat.

The couple alleged in their police statement that the suspect indulged in indecent behaviour 15 minutes before landing.

Later he walked out on bail, sources close to the case told Gulf News.
