Dubai: A truck driver has been accused of luring an 11-year-old schoolboy to the neighbours’ garden and trying to kiss him.

The 44-year-old Pakistani driver was said to have rang the bell of the residence where the 11-year-old Jordanian boy lives to ask about the rent in March.

Luring the boy on the pretext of wanting to inquire about something else in the neighbours’ villa, the boy accompanied the driver, according to records, to the adjacent residence.

Once they entered the garden, the Pakistani placed his hands on the boy’s shoulders and when he tried to kiss him, the 11-year-old pushed him away and rushed back to his residence.

The boy told his parents what had happened but the man had already disappeared.

The father was then said to have installed surveillance cameras around his residence in case the driver or anyone else attempted it again.

A week after the incident, the boy spotted the man while he was in his room and instantly alerted his mother that the driver was outside their neighbour’s house.

Records said the mother called up her husband and the latter instantly called the police who came and apprehended the driver.

Prosecutors accused the 44-year-old of attempting to kiss the boy.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

“I am not guilty and I did not touch him,” the suspect told presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.

The boy testified to prosecutors that when he ran away from the suspect, the latter promised him that he would be returning.

The father told prosecutors that police advised him to install surveillance cameras after the first incidence.

“When my son saw him from his bedroom, he told my wife … she called me while I was at work and I called the police. A police patrol was dispatched to the location and the suspect was arrested. I also showed the surveillance footages of the man to the police before they took him in for questioning,” the father testified to prosecutors.

A policeman testified to prosecutors that the suspect denied kissing or touching the boy during questioning.

The trial continues.
