Dubai: A cleaner has been accused of stealing two rings on two separate occasions when she was hired on an hourly basis to clean two flats.

The 33-year-old Filipina cleaner was said to have been hired to clean the two flats of two European women when she stole the rings in March.

Prosecutors accused the Filipina of stealing a ring worth Dh8,000 that belonged to a British woman in one case.

In the other case, the suspect was accused of stealing a gold ring from a French woman.

When the suspect appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, she pleaded guilty in both cases.

“Yes I stole the ring,” the 33-year-old told presiding judge Urfan Omar.

In the first case, the French woman told prosecutors that she called up a housecleaning services company to hire a cleaner for on hourly basis.

“The suspect came and cleaned my house and then left … later I received a call from the police notifying me that she had stolen my ring. They summoned me to the police station to record my statement,” the French woman said.

Meanwhile, the Briton told the prosecutors that police called and asked her if she had lost any ring.

“I told them that I do not remember. Then they sent me on WhatsApp an image of a ring that my aunt had given me as a gift nine years ago,” she testified.

The Filipina was quoted admitting to prosecutors that police arrested her at a shop in the Gold Souq when she tried to sell the stolen rings.

A ruling in the case will be announced on June 19.
