Dubai: Two doctors have been charged for causing the death of a one-month old baby after a simple surgery went horribly wrong.

The incident occurred in July 2016 at a government hospital in Khorfakkan, according to local Arabic media.

H,S, an Emirati 23-year-old, took his son to hospital for the circumcision and waited for nearly two hours before the operation finished. The son was covered in blood and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit, where he died.

The Higher Committee of Medical Liability at the Ministry of Health presented their report to the appeals court Appeal in Khorfakkan on Tuesday, proving that there was a medical error during the operation, in addition to negligence.

The ministry’s report identified that 70 per cent of the responsibility was on the first doctor who carried out the procedure, while 30 per cent of the responsibility was laid on the second doctor who failed to provide the necessary care following the operation.

According to the Arabic daily Al Ittihad, the Khorfakkan criminal court had sentenced the two defendants to a Dh20,000 fine each and Dh200,000 in blood money.

The case has been adjourned to August 8, 2017, where the defence will present their case.
