Dubai: Three men have been jailed for one year each for having sex with the 17-year-old girlfriend of one of them in a car and taking away her phone.

The 17-year-old Indian girl was in the car of her 24-year-old Bangladeshi friend, when he and his 28-year-old Pakistani friend and an Emirati man, according to her statement, gang-raped her in Al Muhaisnah in October 2015.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the trio of coercing the girl to have sex with them one at a time in the back seat.

According to the primary ruling, the Bangladeshi and Pakistani defendants will be deported following the completion of their imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the defendants contended in court that they had consensual sex and did not rape the girl.

The 17-year-old girl testified that she had agreed to go for a ride with her Bangladeshi friend.

“He called me and said he wanted to take me for a ride and then picked me up. The Pakistani and Emirati friends were present with him.

"They drove to Ajman where they consumed alcohol and I refused to drink. They drove back to Al Muhaisnah where they parked in a deserted area. The 24-year-old asked to have sex with me after his friends stepped out of the car.

"When I refused, he took away my phone and then he asked me to go out. The other two men were standing outside and there was another vehicle parked behind. They asked me to sit in the back seat of the other vehicle and wait. I sat there for a few minutes before the Bangladeshi came and raped me first … the other two followed. I cried and was very scared. I just wanted to go back home. I had to surrender myself because I was too frightened … then they dropped me home,” she testified.

Records said the girl notified her parents about what happened before they took her to the police the next day.

A policeman said two of the suspects were identified and arrested shortly after the girl reported the incident.

The trio’s lawyers argued before the court that their clients had consensual sex with the girl.

The primary judgement remains subject to appeal within 13 days.
