Dubai: Two students have been accused of breaking into a pharmacy and stealing pills worth Dh4,200, cash from the register and gift vouchers.
The Emirati duo, 23-year-old S.M. and 20-year-old M.K., were said to have used a metal bar with which they broke the pharmacy’s door, sneaked inside and stole drugs, cash and vouchers in December.
Prosecutors accused to duo of stealing and breaking the pharmacy’s door and cash register.
The suspects pleaded not guilty and denied their accusations before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said S.M. and M.K. stole prescribed medicines, Dh6,200 cash money and 12 gift vouchers from the pharmacy in Al Rifaa.
They also broke down the door, the register and the storage cupboard inside which the pills were stored.
A Palestinian woman pharmacist testified to prosecutors that she discovered the robbery in the morning when she went to open the pharmacy at 7.50am. “The main door was wrecked and it was obvious that someone had broken the doors and burgled the pharmacy. The two boxes in which we kept the cash had gone. I climbed up to the first floor and also found out that the burglars had stolen the pills. I reported the matter to the police instantly. When they arrived, they inspected the surveillance cameras, the footage of which revealed that two masked men had broken into the pharmacy and stolen cash and medicines …,” she claimed to prosecutors.
Primary interrogations led to the arrest of the suspects, according to records.
A police sergeant claimed to prosecutors: “Upon questioning S.M., he admitted that he and M.K. had burgled the pharmacy and stolen cash and pills. He alleged that he picked up M.K. at midnight and they drove around searching for pharmacies until they reached that pharmacy in Al Rifa’a around 1am. S.M. further alleged during questioning that they forced their way into the pharmacy, from where he stole the cash from the register while M.K. stole the pills … then they split the cash. When asked about the stolen drug pills, he admitted that he had consumed them and nothing was left with him. M.K. gave a similar statement.”
