Dubai: The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) will be offering counselling services in the Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain Cultural and Islamic Centre.

Ganima Al Bahri, Care and Rehabilitation Director at DFWAC, said that there will be a trial period of three months as an initial plan. The services will be provided in the Princess Haya Centre twice a month from 8am to 2pm, which will be subject to change should there be an increase in demand for the services.

At the end of the third month of the trial period, an evaluation will be carried out based on the counselling experience to discuss areas of improvement. Through these counselling services, DFWAC will provide qualified psychologists and social workers to offer the necessary help to victims suffering from abuse.

Through the Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain Cultural and Islamic Centre in Al Mazhar branch, DFWAC plans to reach a larger audience by offering its services in areas closer to the heart of Dubai. Afra Al Basti, director-general of DFWAC, said cooperation between the centre and DFWAC has helped provide an opportunity to offer services to the public easily.

Afra said: “DFWAC is working to reach people before they reach it as a part of its initiative “Closer to them”, to implement the vision of the wise leadership to work to achieve the comfort and happiness of all clients, and despite the availability of many means of communication with the Foundation directly or through others. However, the provision of our services in a location closer to the heart of Dubai will make it easier for many to get the required help faster.”

DFWAC offers psychological and social counselling services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. As the first licensed non-profit shelter in the UAE, the foundation was established in 2007 to offer victims of abuse a safe shelter.

The services offered include legal services, care services and other rehabilitation services for women and children in need. The foundation will also provide shelter services if needed depending on the case presented.
