Abu Dhabi: The Traffic and Patrol Directorates in the UAE will intensify their efforts during the Eid Al Fitr holiday to promote traffic safety, the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday.

They will also deploy traffic patrols on roads with heavy traffic to help traffic flow, reduce congestion and deal with emergencies.

The ministry urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws and the speed limit, in order to avoid traffic accidents during the holiday.

Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za’abi, Director-General, Traffic Coordination Department, stressed the importance of adhering to traffic laws and driving carefully, especially near malls and markets. He also stressed the importance of leaving enough distance between vehicles and not obstructing traffic due to incorrect parking.

He pointed out the importance of being careful to not use spaces designated for the disabled, as well as civil defence, ambulance or rescue cars, so as not to obstruct their duties in case of an emergency.

He called on drivers to wear seat belts, and to not allow children below the age of ten to sit in the front seat.

Brigadier Al Za’abi stressed the importance of not using mobile phones to talk, text, or chat while driving. He said that this is considered a violation of the law because it puts people’s lives at risk.
