Dubai: You ran and they segregated your trashed bottles — all 90,000 of them.

The Green Team from Dulsco, including more than 100 staff volunteers and workers, collected 86,450 plastic bottles and 4,300 glass bottles after the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on Friday to keep the city clean and green after the mega event.

The team was present at the event to ensure that the recyclables of the more than 30,000 runners who turned up for the marathon were segregated at source and later recycled.

Dulsco placed more than 80 green bins for collecting recyclables and 30 black bins for general waste.

In its efforts to go green, marathon organisers teamed up with Dulsco as its official recycling partner.

“This was a mammoth task for us. Our main objective was to educate people at the event and ensure that the waste is put in the right bins and also trigger a behavioural change in them towards the environment,” S. Madhumohan, Director, Waste Management, Dulsco, said.

The 2015 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon was held under the auspices of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council.
