Separate Telangana was a life-time dream. We have got it after 60 years of struggle. We are thrilled. Now the challenge before us is development of the new state. Considering our strengths and weaknesses we need to have [a] road map, our political leadership must have [a] clear vision and work with commitment and dedication. We have great natural and intellectual resources.

It [bifurcation] is a great job done by the Congress party, supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Telangana formation offers several opportunities for people in the new state, which was long overdue. I hope to see development in both Telangana and Seemandhra as I belong to both regions. My parents are from Krishna district [Andhra], I was born and brought up in Warangal [Telangana] and since 1984 I’ve been an NRI.

They can divide the state but they cannot divide the hearts of the people as they speak the same language [Telugu] and share same traditions, customs and festivals. I don’t think there is any difference between Telangana and Andhra people. The feeling of animosity will not be there for long and the relationships will be as usual.

Now that the decision has been taken, I only wish that people of both states live as brothers and never have any differences. Though there are between us our hearts will always be one and we will strive for each other’s progress. The opportunity that has come particularly for Rayalaseema as a special zone I think everybody takes advantage of that, put some industries over there as well as in northern Andhra and it will lead to lot of development overall in the state. We will put behind us all the pains that we have gone through and now is the time to progress and prove to rest of India that we as brothers have separated we can live together and prosper together and probably take our culture and states to much higher level.

Personally, though I am not staying back in the present state of Andhra Pradesh I feel that both the places have to live in peace and prosperity and their agenda has to be development.

I am very happy that both Houses of Parliament have passed the Telangana Bill and I thank our state and national leaders who helped it happen. This is just half the job done, now the focus should be on rebuilding the region long neglected by successive governments of Andhra Pradesh. The Gulf Telangana Welfare and Cultural Association will strive to prevail upon the new state to look into the issue of Gulf migrant workers from the Telangana region.

The 58-year-old dream of a separate Telangana has become a reality as a result of sacrifices by hundreds of youth. The revolt was for seeking constitutional rights, self-governance, self-respect and cultural identity and it should not be construed as a fight against the people of Seemandhra. The bifurcation of the state will benefit all three regions, viz Telangana, Rayalaseema and Andhra. The special packages and tax incentives announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha for Seemandhra will ensure speedy growth and help realise the dream of making it a second Singapore if the leaders have the will power.

We may be divided geographically, but the Telugu people will remain together at heart forever as we share a common language, common culture and customs. Vested interests are creating a fear among Seemandhra people who made Hyderabad their home. There should be no such apprehension for our fight was for Telangana and not against people of any region. I wish the new government focuses on education in the backward areas of Telangana as many people from Nalgonda, my home district, are illiterate for want of better educational facilities.
