Ramallah: Plans to suspend Palestinian security cooperation with the Israeli regime are under way, according to a senior Palestinian official, and comes as a retaliatory move to the re-election of Israeli Prime Minister of Benjamin Netanyahu last week.

“Palestinians will no longer accept being security agents for Israel in the West Bank,” Tayseer Khaled, a member of the PLO Executive Committee told Gulf News. “This will be among the many coming steps of disobedience towards the Israeli regime,” he added.

On Tuesday senior Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) officials will meet with the heads of Palestinian security to finalise a comprehensive plan to totally suspend security coordination with Israel. The re-election of Netanyahu has

rallied Palestinians around the move, who already view security cooperation with the Israeli regime a national betrayal. Under the cooperation arrangement, Israeli security forces are believed to have access to Palestinian security data. Also, Israeli occupation forces are allowed to raid any city in the West Bank after informing Palestinian security forces who are to withdraw from the streets and allow the Israelis to enter.

Security cooperation was suspended in 2000 during the second Palestinian intifada after the Israeli regime accused Palestinian security forces of being involved in the military struggle against Israel.

Palestinian officials also have plans to conduct serious dialogue with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza. “Bridging gaps between the PLO and Hamas is the next step in the struggle against Israelis. We are aiming for complete internal reconciliation amongst Palestinian factions, PLO official Wasel Abu Yousef told Gulf News.
