Ramallah: A Palestinian woman died on Tuesday after inhaling tear gas used by the Israeli army to disperse protesters near the West Bank city of Bethlehem.
Tear gas was fired by occupation forces at Palestinian protesters on Monday in the camp but one of the shells missed its target and landed in the victim’s courtyard in the Aida Refugee Camp.
Clashes between Palestinian protesters in the refugee camp and occupation armed forces have been occurring daily.
The Bethlehem Governorate on Tuesday announced the death of 44-year-old Noha Mohammad Hassan Qatamesh by suffocation.
Sources in the governorate told Gulf News that medical teams late Monday moved the woman to Beit Jala Public Hospital where she died the next day. Reports of both hospital and forensic expert stated that her death was caused by tear gas.
Occupation forces prefer to disperse protesters by firing tear gas shells. During protests, tear gas has been the cause of several deaths of innocent bystanders or elderly people in homes when the shells miss their targets.
Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank have been hotspots and avenues for confrontation with occupation forces. The West Bank has 14 refugee camps whose residents live under extremely inhuman conditions.
