Bethelhem: Israeli troops shot dead a 19-year-old Palestinian during clashes on Tuesday at a refugee camp in the southern West Bank town of Bethlehem, medics said.

Jihad Al Jafari was killed after Israeli troops entered the Dheishe camp before dawn, sparking clashes with stone-throwing locals, according to medics and witnesses.

During the incident, Al Jafari went up onto a rooftop and was hit in the chest by a bullet, they said.

Medics took his body for an autopsy at the Abu Dis forensic institute near east Jerusalem, with a funeral expected to take place later in the day.

The Israeli regime’s army confirmed a shooting incident happened inside the camp, saying troops opened fire after coming under attack by people throwing stones and incendiary devices, which injured a soldier.

“After trying in vain to disperse the crowd of attackers, our forces felt in danger and opened fire at the leader of the rioters, who was hit,” she said, without elaborating.
