Ramallah: Israeli military forces sealed off Al Haram Al Sharif on Thursday morning, banning anybody from entering the holy site.

“There is a total seal — even the call to prayer has been totally suspended and banned,” said Fakhri Abu Diyab, a member of the Higher Committee in Defence of Jerusalem (occupied).

Abu Diyab said that virtually all roads had been sealed off and tensions, demonstrations and confrontations with the Israeli forces had been on the rise. “Occupied East Jerusalem is now at a crossroads where conditions have been ripe for the Israelis to act just the way they wish with Al Haram Al Sharif,” he told Gulf News.

“There have been no serious and real reactions to the Israeli aggression in the occupied East Jerusalem from the Jordanians or the Palestinian National Authority.”

Abu Diyab terms Al Haram Al Sharif the soul of occupied Jerusalem and claims that even in the absence of an official reaction, “the residents of occupied East Jerusalem will not leave Al Haram Al Sharif and Al Aqsa Mosque unprotected.”

“The conditions are extremely tense — it is a time bomb which will explode at any second. Matters are moving from bad to worse.”
