Amsterdam: Dozens of Kurds stormed the national parliament building in The Hague on Monday night in a protest against Daesh fighters who are attacking a Kurdish town in northern Syria, a spokesman for the Kurdish Federation said.

Riot squads were deployed to the scene and helicopters were also said to be flying overhead, said media reports.

The spokesman said that the protesters were staging a peaceful protest to draw attention to the situation in Kobane, also known as Ain Al Arab, where he said “there is a genocide about to unfold.” Dutch broadcaster RTL said 60-70 Kurdish protesters forced their way into the high-security building. Police officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Kurdish activists seeking to draw attention to the threat facing Kurds in Syria and Iraq by advancing Daesh militants have held several protests in the Netherlands in recent weeks.
