ABU DHABI: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Jordan’s Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi underscored the importance of immediate and complete reopening of Al Aqsa Mosque for worshippers.

They also said that Israel must respect the status quo of the holy places there.

This came when Shaikh Abdullah received a telephone call from Safadi on Thursday, during which the two ministers discussed the efforts exerted to end tension and restore calm in Al Haram Al Sharif in accordance with principles that protect the holy places and safeguard their security and stability.

Shaikh Abdullah and Safadi reiterated that it was important for the international community to exert immediate and effective efforts to de-escalate the tension in Al Aqsa Mosque, by obliging Israel to honour its legal and international commitments and end its unilateral actions.

Safadi also briefed Shaikh Abdullah on efforts exerted by Jordan to restore calm and ensure no new facts are imposed on the ground about the Al Aqsa Mosque. They also agreed on continuous bilateral consultation and coordination.
