Occupied Jerusalem: Daesh claimed responsibility Monday for two rockets fired from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula into southern Israel.
The strikes hit the Eshkol region close to the border late Sunday without causing injury or significant damage, the army said.
Daesh claimed responsibility in a statement on its Amaq propaganda agency, saying the attack “targeted a Jewish community (Eshkol) with two Grad missiles”.
Daesh-affiliated militants in the Sinai have been fighting an intense insurgency against Egyptian forces, with hundreds of troops and policemen killed since the army ousted Egypt’s elected Islamist president Mohammad Mursi in 2013.
There have also been occasional incidents along the Israeli-Egyptian border, with Daesh claiming responsibility for a rocket attack in April.
Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system has intercepted previous strikes.
