Sana’a: The wife and two sons of a 45-year-old man punished him for his cruelty by beating him to death in the district of Al Manar, Dhamar province, 100km south of the Yemeni capital, a government-run daily reported on Tuesday.

The Taiz-based Al Jamhuria newspaper said that the family reached the end of the rope with the man’s harsh discipline and agreed to take up the stick to punish him.

Salem Al Haddad, the head of the province’s Criminal Investigation, said the sons, Yahiya and Jamal, and their mother dragged the father into a room and hit him with a stick until he became unconscious.

Al Hadad said that the oldest son Yahiya felt a twinge of remorse and quickly took the father to hospital, but it was too late as the father was pronounced dead the moment he reached the hospital. The two sons and wife admitted that they killed the man because of his “excessive violence” against them.

But another official media outlet said that the sons killed the man for a different motivation. Al Thura daily quoted a local security official who said that the blood-stained body was found hidden in a car heading to the hospital, and the sons killed their father to get his pension.

Yemen has recently witnessed many similar gruesome crimes in many cities. Early this month, a 34-year-old man dragged his son, 16, to death in the streets of Hajja town, northern Yemen, for playing truant.
