Dubai: The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has distributed food to needy families, orphans and widows in Habban district in the Yemeni governorate of Shabwa, in a move to ease their difficult economic and humanitarian conditions.
Mohammad Saif Al Muhairi, Head of the ERC team in Shabwa, said the distribution of food supplies is part of the humanitarian aid programme begun by the ERC to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people, caused by an Al Houthi coup.
The aid group also provided 36,000 litres of diesel fuel to the Public Corporation for Electricity, to Shabwa in order to power generators and supply electricity to more than 45,000 households there.
The ERC signed an agreement yesterday to finance several renovation projects in Yemen, including at Ataq Central Hospital and six primary and secondary schools in Ataq and Mayfa’a in Shabwa.
The agreement includes the restoration of Ataq Central Hospital, Henishan Secondary School for Boys and Arwa Secondary School for Girls in Ataq, as well as Azzan Secondary School for Boys, Azzan Primary School for Boys and Girls and Hafsa Primary School in Mayfa’a.
In Al Mukalla, the ERC reopened the Chest and Tuberculosis Centre. Riyad Al Jariri, Director of the Health and Population Office in Hadramout praised various the ERC’s contribution to various services sectors in the governorate, especially the health sector.
