Lahej: Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has distributed thousands of food baskets in several Yemeni cities and areas, ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan.

The move is part of the continuous efforts by the UAE to ease the suffering of the people of Yemen due to the war being waged by the Al Houthi rebels and fighters loyal to former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

About 5,000 food baskets were distributed in the Governorate of Lahej and 2,000 in the villages on the western coast.

Meanwhile, 3,000 food baskets were distributed in Al Mokha and Jabal and 540 in the villages of Al Gharafi, Al Bawala and Al Fatrah. Some 2,460 food baskets were distributed to the displaced people in Al Mokha.

The Yemeni beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the UAE for providing them with timely assistance, ahead of Ramadan. The gesture reflects the keenness of the UAE, led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people in light of the difficult conditions in their country, they added.
