Manama: Security authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested a Saudi national who was shown on a video clip beating an expatriate worker.

The 20-second video of the angry Saudi repeatedly hitting the Asian-looking expatriate went viral on the Internet, prompting the police to move into action.

“With reference to the video clip that was circulated on social media and which showed an expatriate being beaten by a Saudi man following a fight between them over a financial issue, the police have been able to identify the aggressor,” Bader Al Sahibani, the media spokesperson for the police in Al Qassem, said. “The initial measures have taken against him and he was referred to the investigation commission and to the public prosecution,” he said, quoted by Saudi site Al Marsad on Monday.

Social media users harshly criticized the Saudi for beating the worker, saying that that whatever the reason for their difference, it should not degenerate into a physical fight.

Most users called for action against the men who looked passively at the assault and did nothing to stop it or to calm the spirits, saying they were accomplices in the aggression.

Some users however said commenters should not rush into drawing conclusions and should wait for the conclusion of the investigations to post their remarks.
