Manama: The first victim of the heavy rain that lashed the Saudi capital Riyadh was a Yemeni resident who was carried away by floods in front of her powerless father.

The girl was reportedly riding with her father in their car when they had to stop and get off as the waters of Wadi Namar were too dangerous to cross using the vehicle. However, as the father and daughter attempted to cross the watercourse on foot, the girl could not escape and she was carried away by the floods, local news site Sabq reported on Sunday afternoon.

The civil defence is still looking for an old man and a young man, the other two people who are missing.

Massive efforts have been exerted to locate them.

Mohammad Al Hammadi, the spokesperson for the civil defence, said that 228 people have been mobilised for the search and rescue operation.

Motorists in and near the Saudi capital have been urged to avoid venturing out amid reports of damaged roads and blocked underpasses.
