Manama: Social media users in Saudi Arabia have called for the prompt arrest of a young man who beat up another and took a Snapchat.

“This is the young man I beat up without any mercy,” the aggressor boasted in the 10-second clip showing the victim helplessly lying on the floor with blood on his face and clothes.

However, his action was uncompromisingly condemned by social media users.

“Regardless of the reasons for the fight, this man had no right to beat up another,” Al Ghamdi, a user, posted. “The aggressor should be arrested quickly and jailed for at least one year for assaulting another. Even if he has some rights, he cannot take the law in his hands and beat up another and then boast about it. There are institutions that should be respected.”

Kafel said he was optimistic the authorities would arrest the aggressor and punish him severely.

“We cannot allow anyone to humiliate others notwithstanding the reasons and purposes,” he said.

The Iron, another user, said he was shocked.

“Is the aggressor so reckless as to post a clip of his victim and utter derogatory comments? It is not the law of the jungle here, and he should be held accountable for what he did. If anyone is allowed to beat up a person and then post the aggression on social media, then we will be facing a serious issue.”

Amira said that the clip was “highly deplorable”.

“If the aggressor thinks he is brave enough, he should join the Saudi army fighting at the southern borders,” she said. “It is there that he can show off his power and courage if he thinks that is what it takes. Let him beat the Houthis and take Snapshots. The authorities should take strong action against such people.”
