Manama: A Saudi young man has become an instant hero on social media after he climbed a building and rescued a child standing at the edge. However, some users suspected the rescue operation had been staged.

A short video clip showed the child precariously moving on the rooftop of a building towards the edge while people assembled on the street were shouting at him to be careful. The presence of a ladder indicates there has been an attempt to reach the boy, but it was too short to reach the rooftop.

Suddenly, a young man wearing the traditional Saudi thobe started climbing the building using the window and the drainpipe and in matter of seconds reached the rooftop and rescued the child, prompting a round of applause from the onlookers.

No details emerged about where the clip was taken or why the child was moving dangerously on the rooftop of the high building.

“The young man was a hero who took on the challenge and did not blink,” Al Lami, a user, said. “He deserves to be saluted for his action.”

Al Wafi, another user, said that while the young man deserved cheers, the child’s parents should be heavily reprimanded.

“Having children is a huge responsibility that they should assume,” he said.

However, some commenters said they did not believe the clip and argued it was part of a show staged by the young man to show off.

“It is merely an act put together by the young man and his brothers and cousins to show off,” Pharaoh said. “The child could have been saved simply by ringing the bell of the building and climbing the stairs inside. It was just a show.”

The commenter did not explain how he concluded the clip was a fake.
