Dubai: Saudi Arabia has expressed its full support of any measures and sanctions that would limit Iran’s aggressive moves and interference in the countries of the region.

The Saudi delegate at the United Nations meeting on Wednesday said Iran was misusing the economic benefits it gained after the lifting the sanctions against it after the nuclear agreement.

Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of the kingdom to the United Nations Dr. Khalid Manzlawi said that profits were being used to destabilise the region and develop its ballistic missile programme.

He cited its funding of terrorist groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon, Al Houthi militants in Yemen, and armed Shiite militas in Syria.

Manzlawi also condemned Israeli occupation of Palestine and other Arab territories and called for the lifting of the siege on “our brothers in Gaza”.

On Qatar, Manzlawi insisted that an Arab Quartet boycott against it was not a blockade, and said it would continue to be inplace until the “scourge of extremism” was eradicated.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt since June have placed sanctions, closed borders and air space with Qatar to pressure it to stop pursuing destructive policies.
