Manama: Speakers, presidents and chairpersons of the GCC Shura, besides representatives of national councils and assemblies, have strongly condemned and denounced the Iran-backed Al Houthi militia’s recent threat of terror acts against Makkah.
At the end of their 10th session held in Manama on Wednesday, the parliamentary leaders said in a statement that any threats to the security of Saudi Arabia and the sentiments of Muslims is akin to threats to the security and sentiments of the GCC people.
They called on all countries, organisations and commissions of the international community to take serious and effective steps to prevent a repeat of such brazen provocations in the future and to help the Arab Coalition to bring about an end to the crisis in Yemen.
Meanwhile in a separate statement, the Saudi Press Agency reported that the meeting rejected the US Congress-drafted Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, Jasta, as a flagrant violation of the basic principles of international relations, particularly the principle of equality of sovereign immunity.
The statement said that any breach of this rule would constitute a threat to world security and peace. It called on the US Congress to reconsider the decision and not to give the final nod to implement it.
The UAE’s delegation to the meeting was headed by Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council.
