Dubai: A documentary about Haj airing this week provides rare insight into the intricate operations of Haj — the largest congregation of people in the world.
The film, entitled ‘The Duty of Care’, is told through the eyes of three Ministry of Health’s health care professionals serving Haj pilgrims and sheds light on the complex health infrastructure required to service such a large gathering.
Around 30,000 dedicated health care givers are needed to meet the demands of the gathering.
In total, there are around 155 primary health care centres and 25 hospitals available to attend to the needs of the pilgrims.
They work hand in hand with more than 5,000 MOH paramedics located around the Grand Mosque, who use the latest GPS technology to locate every single person requiring medical attention and reach them in a timely manner to attend to their needs.
Haj attracts 2.5 million pilgrims annually.
To deal with the massive responsibility, Saudi Arabia has employed specialists and the latest technology to provide advanced care and efficiently deploy resources in a timely manner.
National Geographic Abu Dhabi regularly produces and airs programmes that highlight regional achievements for a global audience.
The documentary will be shown on November 24 at 4pm and 7pm and 11pm on National Geographic Abu Dhabi.
