Manama: Saudis have condemned a local actor after he was shown torturing a fox in a video clip, and called for stringent measures against him.
In the clip, Abu Hawas could be seen hurling the terrified animal and slamming it to the ground. He then picks the animal and pulls off his whiskers.
“I will pluck all your whiskers in a way that you will never forget,” he was heard as saying in the short clip, reportedly shot by friends.
Addressing the Saudi Wildlife Commission, the actor said that he wanted to avenge the killing of hens that belonged to his son by the fox.
“Do forgive me for my attitude towards the fox, but it has eaten the hens of my son Khalid. Please forgive me,” he said.
However, the clip that went viral within hours on social networks on Monday triggered a wave of condemnation by wildlife officials and bloggers.
The president of the Wildlife Commission Prince Bandar Bin Mohammad Al Saud reportedly said that the actor’s attitude was shameful and despicable and called upon the interior ministry to take strong action against him.
Shocked by the clip, several bloggers vented their anger at the actor.
“You are the enemy of humanity and life. Get lost”, Noofa, a blogger, posted. “May they arrest you and do to you what you did to the poor fox. Even if the animal had eaten your mother’s hens, that is not the way to treat it.”
Toota said that the actor lacked the essential values of humanity and called for strong action against him, local news site Al Marsad reported on Tuesday.
Abdul Mohsen said that the actor’s behaviour was atrocious.
“What would you and the ugly people with you say to God on Judgement Day? May you in the meantime suffer the same torture you had inflicted on the poor animal!”
Another blogger said that the actor’s behaviour was abusive.
“You and your friends were flexing your muscles with a poor animal. This is obviously what you are good at. May God punish you and send you someone who will flex his muscles with you in the same way,” he posted.
