Manama: A court in the Saudi capital Riyadh has sentenced two terrorists to a total of 28 years in jail on the charges of shooting security men and taking part in illegal riots in the Qateef region.

The court said that the first terrorist would spend 20 years in prison and pay a SR10,000 fine. He was also banned from traveling abroad for 20 years after he finishes serving the sentence.

The judge said that the defendant shot the security men who were about to arrest him in a criminal case, wounding one of them and hitting an official vehicle. He also found him guilty of possessing weapons he had planned to use to undermine security, and of taking part in illegal protests in Al Qateef, Saudi daily Okaz reported on Wednesday.

The second defendant was sentenced to eight years in jail and to pay a fine of SR5,000. He was also banned from traveling abroad for a similar period starting the day he is released.

The judge said the defendant was guilty of not reporting the first defendant who shot at the security men about to arrest him, of wounding a man with a gun in another incident and of possessing weapons he planned to use for terrorism purposes.

The first defendant reportedly said he would appeal the sentence while the first defendant accepted the court verdict.
