Dubai: Saudi authorities named the suicide bomber who blew himself in a mosque on Friday killing 21 worshippers as Saleh Bin Abdul Rahman Saleh Al Qashami.

The bomber was on the Saudi list of wanted terrorists who were members of a local cell that received instructions from the Daesh terror group, a spokesperson for the interior ministry said on Saturday evening.

The cell had been busted by the Saudi authorities who have been chasing its members.

According to the spokesperson, 26 members of the cell, all Saudi nationals, have been arrested so far.

He added that five members of the cell were involved in the attack on a security patrol tasked with guarding a strategic site south of the capital Riyadh. One security man, Majed Al Ghamdi, was killed in the armed assault.

The five who were arrested admitted they carried out the attack and killed the security man.

The spokesperson added that laboratory tests have concluded that the Al Qashami used RDX explosives in the blast at Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque.

According to health ministry figures, 101 people were injured in the Friday mosque blast.

The spokesperson said that the investigations were continuing.
