Manama: Renovation work at a house brought joy in unexpected ways to two men in Saudi Arabia after it led to the discovery of 10,000 Saudi riyals the homeowner had completely forgotten about.

A Saudi national in the western area of Khurmah had asked an expatriate worker to help him dismantle an old bedroom and put up a new one in its place.

As the worker started his task, he stumbled upon old notes adding up to 10,000 riyals carefully tucked away inside a piece of furniture.

He alerted the owner, who recalled after some time that he had kept the money in the furniture as he was too busy at the time to think of another location where he could put it away safely, Saudi daily Okaz reported on Friday.

The worker was offered a cash reward to thank him for his honesty and reporting the cash found to the owner.

Social media users lauded both the worker for his honesty and the employer for rewarding him.

There have been several instances when employers have drawn scathing criticism from social media users for failing to recognise the honesty of their employees or giving them insignificant rewards.
