Dubai: Bloggers have launched a hashtag on Twitter to help locate where Qatar’s Emir Shaikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani was.

No news about the whereabouts of the Emir were published following his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

A news report that said Shaikh Tamim was expected to arrive back home on Saturday was denied by the official Qatar Television.

“We would like to inform you that the news about the Emir’s arrival home was fabricated, and people are urged to rely on our authenticated accounts,” Qatar Television posted on its Twitter account, Saudi news site Sabq reported.

The lack of news about the Emir gave way to the hashtag in Arabic “Where do you think Tamim is” and to a wide scope of speculations on social media.

“He has left New York more than two days ago and his government and people do not know anything about him,” Meshari posted.

Abdullah Al Ghamdi suggested that the Qatari leader wanted to convince the international community that his country was under siege.

Tweeta said that the best option for Shaikh Tamim was to fly to Saudi Arabia and to meet King Salman.

Several bloggers said that he was most likely on an unannounced visit to Iran or Turkey.
