Abu Dhabi:  The GCC countries will not back down on their security and stability and will confront Qatar to the very end if it continued to support terrorist groups and spread terrorist ideology, a senior official said.

“At this critical moment in history, I call on the Qatari leadership to choose what is best for your people and for yourselves… put your national interest at the forefront, because the GCC countries will not back down on maintaining their security and stability,” said Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council and member of the Executive Council.

Dr Al Nuaimi warned in a video clip posted on his Twitter account that the GCC countries “will encounter you to the very end if you continue to support terrorist groups and spread their terrorist ideology.”

Dr Al Nuaimi said in his message to the Qatari leadership: “Rest assured that the history books will not be kind to you … and the Qatari people, when the truth is revealed, will curse you … think of and reflect on what you have pushed Qatar to … Taking shelter in Iran’s embrace is tantamount to seeking shelter  in a snake’s pit. It will invariably bite you, undermine your security and exploit you for the service of its agenda,” he said.

Irresponsible statement

Dr Al Nuami said the GCC countries had no choice but to take tough measures against Qatar.

“We hoped that Qatar would return to reason and take full responsibility towards its people.”

He regretted the Qatari statement in which it accused GCC countries and Egypt of engineering a plot against Doha.

Qatar said Sunday it was facing a campaign of lies and fabrications aimed at putting it under guardianship, after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and
Egypt cut ties with it.

“The campaign of incitement is based on lies that had reached the level of complete fabrications,” the Qatari foreign ministry said.

Dr Al Nuaimi called upon Qatar to commit itself to the last part of its statement which said that, as a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, it was committed to its charter, respected the sovereignty of other states and did not interfere in their affairs.

Dr Al Nuaimi said that the GCC countries only demand that Qatar be committed to the Riyadh Agreement and its Complementary Arrangement in 2014 as well as the Riyadh Agreement after the US-GCC Summit.

Troubling actions

Addressing Qatar’s Emir, Dr Al Nuami said: “If I were in your shoes, I would immediately shut down Al Jazeera TV, deport those
who caused the crisis including Azmi Bishara and other leaders of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group and stop funding terrorist organisations.

“Enough slyness. The entire world knows that the Qatari government has been financing terrorist groups such as Al Houthis, Al Qaida, Al Shabab of Somalia, Al Nusra Front and others,” Dr Al Nuaimi said.

In separate tweets, Dr Al Nuaimi advised the Qatari leaders to rethink their choices before they lose the right to host the 2022 World Cup.
