Muscat: Omani Yousuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs and US Secretary of State John Kerry signed on Friday an agreement on cooperation in the field of science and technology in Davos, Switzerland.
The agreement paves the way for cooperation between the US and Oman in several fiedlds, including exchange of scientists, researchers and training of personnel, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.
It also stipulates organising of joint workshops, seminars and implementation of joint projects in the field of science and technology development.
The agreement aims to promote economic cooperation between the two countries through advanced technological applications in order to strengthen the scientific and technological capacity between them.
Meanwhile, Dr Salim Al Esmaili, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa), met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the 46th edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
Al Esmaili affirmed that Oman is ready to develop ties with Iran in several fields.
The United States is considered the fourth biggest trading partner, and the volume of trade between America and Oman stood at $3 billion (Dh11 billion) in 2014.
Oman’s investment in the US stood at more than $1 billion in 2014, according to figures from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Oman signed the Treaty of Friendship and Navigation with the US back in 1833, which reflects the close relations between two countries.
In 2009, Oman signed an Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the US, which aimed to promote economic reforms, investment, trade and export of goods between the two countries.
