Muscat: Three Omani nationals were burnt to death in a horrific road accident in Makaileef area of Saham province on Friday morning.

Another person sustained severe injuries.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier.

An official at the Royal Oman Police (ROP), told Gulf News that the driver was speeding at the time he met with the accident at around 5am.

“The driver of the vehicle tried to avoid a motorbike driver, but he lost control of the vehicle,” the official said.

All the victims hailed from Saham province.

The injured person is still in unstable condition.

In another accident, a 16 year-old boy was killed while attempting to perform a drifting stunt in the Mikaileef area of Saham province last Tuesday night.

The driver lost control of his vehicle while he performed the stunt near the beach. The vehicle overturned, crushing the teenager and causing him severe injuries and internal bleeding. He died on the way to the hospital, the ROP said.

Images of the accident went viral on social media.

The deceased was identified as Saud Al Fazari.

The teenager didn’t have a driving licence, residents said.

In a similar incident, two young Omanis were killed while performing a driving stunt in Shinas province two weeks ago.

Speeding remains the main cause of road accidents across the country over the past three years, according to statistics.

In all, 816 people were killed in road accidents in 2014, compared to 913 persons in 2013, according to the ROP.
