Muscat: Three Omani brothers along with their cousins were killed in Muscat on Friday when their car flipped over in Jifnain.

Two others family members in the car were injured and are currently receiving treatment in a Muscat government hospital, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) told Gulf News.

The victims were buried on Saturday in their village of Dima Wa Tayeen.

Although Oman has a very high road accident rate, it registered a 14.9 per cent dip in 2015, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

There were 5,254 accidents recorded in 2015, down from 6,171 road accidents in 2014.

Similarly, 618 people died in car accidents in 2015, down from 760 fatalities in 2014.

A ROP official told Gulf News that traffic awareness campaigns and more speed radars have contributed to the drop in the number of road accidents.
